NEW RELEASE: LAPHROAIG 2004 15 YEAR OLD

Our latest Octave Premium release is a Laphroaig distilled in 2004 and bottled at 15Years Old.

-

Distillery background:

Laphroaig is Gaelic for “the beautiful hollow by the broad bay”.

In 1815, the brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston built the distillery on a remote spot on the south coast of Islay.

Water runs from the Kilbride Loch down granite hill and through large peat bogs to the distillery. Laphroaig still do

their own floor maltings and operate a peat kiln.

It has been known that on a stormy night the sea has spilled into the warehouse and soaked the casks, giving

Laphroaig a salty, iodine taste.

-

BEFORE Tasting Notes:

Colour: Sunlight

Nose: Lots of lovely peat and smoke, quite creamy with salty and fresh notes.

Palate: Full of smoke and peat again. Quite punchy but well balanced with medicinal notes and a delicate sweetness behind all of the

peat.

Finish: A never ending peaty delight.

-

After Tasting Notes:

Colour: Old gold.

Nose: Smoked pears with some damp earth. Restrained smoke, quite vegetal. Sultanas and fresh grilled figs.

Palate: More definite sherry notes than on the nose. Quite dry and grassy, but also fairly “fat”. Smoky walnuts and preserved lemons in salt.

Finish: Great length, oily, and the smoke fades to a rounded sweetness, with some seawater in with the sugars.
