The finest whiskies under lock and key

Tantalus

Designed to Tantalise

A tantalus is a wooden stand for spirit decanters with the defining feature of a lock and key. Many believe these stands were designed to limit unauthorised access to its precious contents by the servants or children of the house.

In Greek mythology, Tantalus, one of Zeus' many sons, was punished for the murder of his own son and many other crimes, condemned to stand in water under fruit-laden branches which both receded when he reached to eat or drink. His name is the origin of the word tantalise.

The Duncan Taylor Tantalus Collection contains exceptional single malt and single grain whiskies. This range includes matured whiskies of 40 years and above from some of Scotland’s most premium distilleries, and whiskies that come from some of the country’s most sought after, closed and rare distilleries.

The whiskies from this range include the 1968 Bunnahabhain, 1969 Tamdhu, 1970 Glenrothes, 1972 Glen Grant, 1972 Caperdonich, 1975 Banff, 1982 Bowmore and 1983 Port Ellen, all bottled at natural cask strength and unfettered by chill filtration.

With these unrivalled whiskies, we have created a truly high-class premium range presented in hand blown decanters, housed in elegant hand-crafted Tantalus made from the very casks that matured the whiskies of this range and encased in leather sleeves, all exclusively designed for Duncan Taylor.
